VILAF was honored to be engaged in Vietnam’s first BOT power project in 2002 and with that experience has had the opportunity to participate as counsel for either sponsors or lenders in most other subsequent power projects in Vietnam.
VILAF is ranked on the 1st tier for the Projects and Energy Practice by most reputable international legal surveys, in fact among the three law firms with Vietnam offices having real Projects and Energy experience.
VILAF also advises a number of energy clients in their on-going business with respect to both upstream and downstream operations.

Below are a number of VILAF’s recent projects:

  • Nghi Son 2 Power Project - advising a Japanese consortium in bidding to sponsor the 2 x 600MW Nghi Son 2 coal-fired thermal power plant project in Vietnam.  This is the first power plant to be tendered by the Vietnamese government for foreign participation after the Phu My 2.2 and Phu My 2.3 power plants in 2002;
  • Vinh Tan 3 Power Project – advising the sponsors (CLP as the joint venture of One Energy) in the development, financing and operation of 3x600 MW Coal Fired Power Plant in Vinh Tan, Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam;
  • Vung Ang 2 BOT Power Project – advising JBIC and the international lender for the financing of Vung Ang 2 2x600 MW Coal Fired Power Plant on a BOT basis in Vietnam;
  • Van Phong 1 BOT Power Project – advising Sumitomo Corporation in a joint venture with local sponsors in the development of Van Phong 1 1,300 MW Coal Fired Power Plant on a BOT basis in Vietnam; and
  • Kien Luong 1 BOO Power Project – advising ITACO and other sponsors for the development and financing of Kien Luong 1 2x600 MW Coal Fired Power Plant on a BOO basis in Vietnam.
